Special Postsecondary Education Grant

Description

The Special Postsecondary Education Grant (Special PEG) is a non-federal, student-centered, non-need-based grant (forgivable loan) designed to financially support and to encourage college students to graduate from a private postsecondary baccalaureate degree-granting institution in Arizona.  The maximum grant is $2,000 per year for up to two years to be applied to tuition, books and fees.  The funds must be repaid to the ACPE if the student fails to achieve a bachelor’s degree in three years. 

Program Details: 
  • Students must complete their first baccalaureate degree within three years from the date of the initial disbursement.  Should a student not complete their bachelor degree within the three year time frame the student must repay all funds back to the State of Arizona. 
  • Students must complete a promissory note each year during the application process. 
  • Students enter into repayment if the student is not enrolled at least half-time for more than twelve consecutive months.
Qualifications
This is a project of the Governor’s Office funded through the Special Postsecondary Education Grant.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or an eligible noncitizen.
  • Must be a resident of Arizona for at least the previous 12 months at the time of application completion.  OR A member of the military service of the United States stationed in this state or the spouse or dependent of a member of the military service of the United States stationed in this state.
  • Employees and family members of employees of private postsecondary institutions are not eligible if the employee or family member is eligible for tuition reimbursement or a tuition waiver as a benefit of employment.
  • In the upper 50% of your high school class or have a GPA of 2.5 (or equivalent) or if 22 years of age or older can meet your college’s readiness requirements.
  • Students must enroll at least half time in a baccalaureate degree program at a nationally or regionally accredited private postsecondary educational institution in Arizona.
  • Preference for an award will be given to junior or senior students having completed at least 60 college credit hours.
  • Must maintain satisfactory academic progress as determined by the institution
  • Students must complete a promissory note each year during the application process. 
  • Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The ACPE will automatically receive a copy of the FAFSA once it is processed by the U.S. Department of Education.
